Windows Key in Ubuntu: Access the Start Menu

Reconfiguring the Windows Key in Ubuntu
It's important to note that the original method described in some resources may no longer function correctly. This article provides updated instructions for configuring the Windows key to function as an application launcher in Ubuntu.
Mimicking the Windows Start Menu
Ubuntu features a dropdown menu located at the screen's top edge for launching applications. This functionality closely resembles the Start Menu found at the bottom of the screen in Windows.
For users transitioning from Windows to Ubuntu, it can be beneficial to configure the Windows key to activate the applications menu, mirroring the familiar Windows experience.
Setting the Windows Key Shortcut
Fortunately, customizing this behavior within Ubuntu is a straightforward process. Begin by navigating to the System Settings and selecting the "Keyboard Shortcuts" option.
Within the Keyboard Shortcuts settings, scroll down the list until you locate the entry labeled "Show the panel menu."
Assigning the Accelerator Key
Click within the "Shortcut" column next to "Show the panel menu." The field will change to indicate "New accelerator..."
At this point, press the Windows key on your keyboard. This action assigns the key to the desired function.
Finalizing the Configuration
Once the Windows key has been assigned, click the "Close" button to save your changes.
The configuration is now complete. Pressing the Windows key will now cause the applications menu to appear.
Additional Navigation
After activating the applications menu with the Windows key, you can utilize the right arrow key to access the "Places" or "System" menus for further options.
