Google Now Reminders: Events, Times & Places

Google Now Reminders: A Comprehensive Overview

The Reminders functionality within Google Now provides a robust system for task management. Users are able to establish reminders triggered by precise times, scheduled events – such as television programs – and even geographical locations.

Time-Based and Location-Based Reminders

Reminders can be configured to activate at a designated time, ensuring important tasks aren't overlooked. Furthermore, location-based reminders are available, prompting you when you arrive at or depart from a specified place.

Recurring Reminders

For tasks that need to be completed regularly, Google Now allows for the creation of recurring reminders. These reminders will appear automatically according to a pre-defined schedule.

Cross-Platform Availability

This feature set is currently accessible through Google Now on Android devices. It is also integrated into the Google search application available for both iPhones and iPads.

Synchronization and Future Integration

Reminders are synchronized across all of your connected devices. It is anticipated that this functionality will extend to desktop platforms once Google Now is fully integrated with the Chrome browser.

Personalized Reminders with Google Now

Google Now provides a convenient method for establishing reminders. Users can instruct Google Now to notify them of tasks at a future point, ranging from later that day to several months ahead. These reminders function as a hybrid between traditional alarms and calendar appointments.

Upon the reminder's scheduled time, a notification will appear on your device. To create a reminder, simply activate Google Now by saying "Okay Google" and then state your request, such as "remind me to walk the dog this evening."

The reminder can be further customized when it appears. Alternatively, if voice input isn't preferred, you can type "remind me" and press Enter to access the reminder creation field. Recurring reminders are also supported; for example, "remind me to collect the recycling every Tuesday."

Setting Reminders Through Your Web Browser

Reminders can also be set directly from your web browser. Conduct a search on the Google website using the phrase "remind me," and the necessary form will be displayed.

More detailed reminders can be created by entering a phrase like "remind me to schedule a dentist appointment at 2 PM" into the Google website search bar. This allows for precise scheduling of tasks.

Event Reminders via Google Now

Google Now provides a feature allowing users to receive reminders for upcoming events. This functionality ensures you won't miss important occurrences. Consider, for instance, a strong interest in the television series Game of Thrones.

To set a reminder, simply conduct a Google search for "Game of Thrones". Then, select the "Remind me" option. Google will subsequently notify you when a new episode is scheduled to air, eliminating the need for manual tracking.

Reminders for Various Occasions

This capability extends beyond television shows to encompass other events, such as holidays. Google Now can proactively inform you before a holiday arrives, should you desire.

Furthermore, you can stay informed about news concerning your preferred musicians using a similar method. Search for the artist and click the "Keep me updated" button to receive future updates.

  • TV Shows: Receive notifications for new episodes.
  • Holidays: Be reminded before upcoming holidays.
  • Musical Artists: Stay updated on news and releases.

Geographic Limitations

Currently, the TV show, holiday, and artist reminder features appear to be primarily available through Google.com. Users residing outside of the United States may need to access Google.com directly to utilize these features.

To do so, visit your country-specific Google homepage and navigate to the Google.com link located at the bottom of the page. This will allow you to perform searches on Google.com and access the reminder functionality.

Location-Based Reminders with Google

Google provides the functionality to establish reminders tied to specific locations, leveraging geofencing technology. Because Google Now continuously monitors your whereabouts, it proactively delivers relevant, location-aware details.

This includes things like suggested driving routes for your commute or real-time bus schedules at your current stop.

You can configure reminders that trigger upon arrival at designated places. Upon reaching the specified location, Google Now will notify you with the set reminder.

For instance, a reminder to purchase milk can be established to activate when you reach your usual grocery store. Essentially, if there's an action you need to take, or a piece of information you wish to recall, upon visiting a particular location, a reminder can be easily configured.

The process is straightforward: during reminder creation, choose "Where" and input the desired location instead of specifying a time with "When".

Alternatively, you can utilize a direct search query. Simply type "remind me to [task] at [location]" and the reminder will be activated when you arrive.

Google Now demonstrates intelligent location recognition. If you input "remind me to buy milk at [grocery store chain]", the system will automatically identify the nearest branch of that chain.

Reminder Management on Mobile Devices

Managing reminders on an Android device is straightforward. Begin by launching the Google Now application and selecting the hand-with-ribbon icon located in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

For users of Apple iOS, the process differs slightly. Access the menu, indicated by a three-dot icon, and then select the 'Reminders' option.

Viewing and Removing Reminders

Both platforms will then display a comprehensive list of your scheduled and active reminders. From this view, you have the option to delete any reminders that are no longer needed.

Removing unwanted reminders helps maintain an organized and efficient reminder system.

Utilizing Voice Commands on Android

If you have the Google Experience Launcher installed on your Android device, voice commands provide a convenient alternative.

Simply initiate a voice search by saying "Okay Google" from your home screen. This allows you to create new reminders using voice input or quickly access Google Now.

A swift swipe to the left from your home screen also directly opens Google Now, providing immediate access to your reminders.

Voice control offers a hands-free method for interacting with your reminders.
