UV Disinfecting Robots by UBTECH - Germicidal Solutions

UBTech represents a significantly funded robotics firm based in China that may be unfamiliar to many. Those acquainted with the brand within the United States likely recognize it through its educational STEM products and robotic toys, such as a Star Wars Stormtrooper robot released several years ago – which was my initial experience with the company. However, with approximately $940 million in financial backing, the potential for expanding its product line appears substantial.

A key announcement from UBTech at this year’s CES is the introduction of a series of robots designed for UV-C disinfection. This development addresses a clear and pressing need, particularly in light of recent global events. Notably, UBTech is not the sole company presenting such a solution at the show; LG is also set to unveil its own UV disinfection robot this year.

Similar to LG, UBTech has already initiated trials of its technology. The Delaware Department of Education has implemented these robots in various facilities. The company is manufacturing several Adibot models, including both mobile and stationary configurations. These are now available for purchase, with financing options beginning at $15 per day.

The company emphasizes that while the demand for this type of technology has been heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic, its relevance extends far beyond this specific viral outbreak. Experts in epidemiology have cautioned that the current pandemic is unlikely to be the last major one experienced in our lifetimes.
