Uber Extends Work From Home Policy - September Update

Uber Extends Work From Home Policy

Uber has informed its workforce that the current work from home arrangement will be prolonged until September 13th.

This decision was reached after careful evaluation of the most recent scientific findings and insights from leading experts.

Considerations for the Extension

The varying stages of recovery across different nations, as well as the impending commencement of the academic year, were also key factors in this extension, according to Uber Chief People Officer Nikki Krishnamurthy.

Krishnamurthy communicated these details to employees via email, a copy of which was reviewed by TechCrunch.

The email acknowledged that certain positions, such as those within CommOps, IT, or other departments, necessitate a physical presence in the office.

However, it was emphasized that no employee will be compelled to return to the office if they have legitimate medical concerns.

Vaccination Encouragement and Support

Uber is actively promoting employee vaccination and will facilitate the process.

Employees will be granted time off to receive their vaccinations, as stated in Krishnamurthy’s email.

Comparison to Other Tech Companies

Previously, in August, Uber had announced a work from home expectation extending through June 2021.

Other major technology firms have also adjusted their policies; Google extended its remote work policy to the end of June 2021, while Facebook prolonged theirs until July 2021.

Future Hybrid Work Model

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Uber anticipates adopting a hybrid work model.

However, Krishnamurthy indicated that the specifics of this model are still under development.

Ongoing Evaluation

The company is currently assessing the impact of physical presence on productivity, collaboration, and employee engagement.

Further updates regarding the future work arrangements will be provided in the coming weeks as progress is made.

A previous iteration of this article contained a misspelling of Krishnamurthy’s surname.
