Atlantic Row to Benefit Social Entrepreneurs

A fundraising initiative is underway involving two prominent figures in the U.K. technology sector. They are preparing to undertake a transatlantic rowing journey with the goal of generating funds for a charity dedicated to supporting social entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities.

The Rowing Team and Their Mission

Guy Rigby, the founder and current chair of the Entrepreneurial Services Group at Smith & Williamson, is partnering with David Murray, a successful entrepreneur and investor. Their combined efforts will benefit UnLtd, an organization that has provided support to over 15,000 social entrepreneurs throughout the United Kingdom.

Fundraising Progress and Support

To date, the pair has amassed approximately £350,000 in donations for UnLtd. Significant backing has been received from key organizations within the U.K. tech landscape, including Tech Nation, Founders Forum, and London Tech Week.

Donations to support their endeavor can be made through The Entrepreneur Ship fundraising page. Furthermore, the team will be participating in the prestigious Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, and other technology organizations are encouraged to consider sponsoring their ambitious undertaking.

UnLtd's Impactful Investments

UnLtd has a proven track record of investing in innovative startups. Examples include Patchwork Hub, which created an inclusive employment platform operated by individuals with disabilities, and EduKit, which designed an application to assist school personnel in recognizing and responding to the mental health requirements of students.

Diversity and Inclusion in Social Entrepreneurship

In the past year, UnLtd provided assistance to 662 social entrepreneurs. A substantial 42% of these individuals identified as belonging to a Black, Asian, or minority ethnic group, and/or as having a disability.

The Challenge Ahead

Rigby and Murray are scheduled to begin their 3,000-mile row in December 2021, departing from the Canary Islands. Their anticipated arrival in Antigua is set for February 2022.

The journey will be completed through a rigorous schedule of alternating two-hour rowing shifts, maintained continuously around the clock throughout the entire crossing.
