The Advancement of Precision Cultivation: Crop Steering Analytics

Crop steering is transforming the cultivation of crops like carrots and cannabis, shifting the process from a traditionally intuitive art form to a data-driven scientific approach. For some time, indoor agriculturalists have adopted this methodology to enhance production output.

This technique centers on the meticulous control and adjustment of three key elements: illumination, environmental climate, and irrigation schedules.

When implemented effectively, crop steering allows growers to influence plant morphology, promoting increased height, larger floral development, and accelerated growth cycles.

Trym Integrates Crop Steering Analytics into its Platform

Today, Trym is announcing the integration of crop steering analytics directly into its existing seed-to-sale software solution.

This new functionality equips cultivators with a comprehensive system for tracking cannabis plants throughout their entire lifecycle, from seed germination to final harvest.

Crucially, the platform maintains full adherence to regulatory standards, including compatibility with Metrc, while simultaneously delivering granular data insights through crop steering analysis.

Leveraging Existing Hardware for Seamless Integration

Trym’s crop steering feature is designed to work with pre-existing third-party hardware.

The system utilizes Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) provided by companies like Growlink and Trolmaster to ingest data regarding the plant’s surrounding environmental conditions.

Unlike some other crop steering solutions, Trym doesn’t necessitate the use of proprietary hardware exclusively tied to its platform.

Addressing a Gap in the Cannabis Tech Landscape

“Beyond the increasing prominence of crop steering within the industry, a significant need exists for software that combines crop steering capabilities with robust operational and compliance management tools,” explains Karen Mayberry, CMO and co-founder of Trym.

“Cultivators have previously attempted to utilize software offered by sensor manufacturers for data analysis related to crop steering, but often encountered limitations due to the insufficient functionality of these tools.”

A Unified Platform for Commercial Cannabis Operations

Trym’s platform is specifically engineered to provide commercial cannabis growers with in-depth operational intelligence.

The goal is to consolidate data and replace the fragmented systems – multiple applications and spreadsheet tracking – that many cultivators currently rely upon.

Founded in 2018, the company successfully secured a $3.1 million seed funding round in 2020, demonstrating investor confidence in its vision.
