Trump on TikTok: 'For a Little While'

Shifting Stance on TikTok Ban
A potential U.S. ban of TikTok is slated to begin within the next month. However, President-elect Donald Trump recently indicated a possible change in approach, as reported by Reuters.
During a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump acknowledged the platform's impact on his own campaign. He stated that his team received data demonstrating “billions of views” generated through TikTok, describing the figures as a “record” and “beautiful to see.”
Trump's Positive Experience with TikTok
The incoming president revealed he is reconsidering the ban based on this positive engagement. He expressed a sentiment suggesting a willingness to maintain access to the app, stating, “Maybe we gotta keep this sucker around for a little while.”
Reports indicate that Trump held discussions with TikTok’s Chief Executive Officer earlier this week. Following this meeting, he conveyed a personal affinity for the application, admitting to having a “warm spot” for it.
Current Legal Challenges
In April, President Joe Biden approved legislation mandating ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to divest the short-form video platform.
The deadline for a sale is January 19th of the coming year – the day before Trump’s inauguration. Should a sale not be completed by this date, a nationwide ban will be implemented.
Ongoing Court Battle
ByteDance is currently challenging the legality of this bill in the judicial system. The Supreme Court has scheduled arguments for January 10th to review the case.
The situation remains fluid as the legal proceedings and the incoming administration’s position continue to evolve.
