Trump Administration Halts Federal EV Charger Funding

GSA to Decommission Federal EV Charging Network
According to a recent report published by The Verge, the General Services Administration (GSA), responsible for the management of federal buildings, is preparing to completely dismantle its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
The GSA currently maintains a network comprised of hundreds of EV chargers. This network provides a total of 8,000 charging points for use by government vehicles and federal employees.
Shutdown Directive Issued
Sources indicate that federal employees are expected to receive instructions next week regarding the decommissioning of these chargers. Certain regional offices have already been directed to disconnect their charging stations.
Confirmation of this action surfaced earlier this week when Colorado Public Radio accessed an internal email. The email detailed the planned shutdown of charging stations at the Denver Federal Center, citing they were deemed “not mission critical.”
Shift in Federal Policy
This decision aligns with a broader trend observed during the administration of President Donald Trump. Aggressive cuts to government agencies and a reduction in federal support for renewable energy initiatives have been implemented.
This includes the curtailment of programs that previously allocated millions of dollars to companies like Tesla for the development of EV charging infrastructure.
Seeking Official Confirmation
TechCrunch has contacted the GSA to request an official statement regarding these developments.
The implications of this shutdown are significant, potentially impacting the federal government’s commitment to electric vehicle adoption and sustainability goals.
