toothfairy Raises £3M Seed Round - Virtual Dentistry App

The Rise of Dental Platforms and Toothfairy's £3 Million Seed Funding
The market for platforms serving dentists is experiencing significant growth. This trend is largely driven by evolving government policies that are increasingly restricting access to dental care through social care systems, particularly within the U.K.
However, the most profitable segment within this market is cosmetic dentistry. Many startups are focusing their efforts here, often by creating platforms that aggregate private dental clinics for streamlined booking.
Toothfairy: A New Approach to Dental Care
Toothfairy, a U.K.-based startup, is innovating within this space with a unique service model. The company has recently secured £3 million in seed funding.
This funding round was spearheaded by impact venture capital firms ADA Ventures and Slingshot, with additional investment from Seedcamp, All Iron, and Haatch Ventures.
Notable angel investors also participated, including members of the Atomico Angel Programme, Deepali (Angel Investor of the Year), and Joe Cross, formerly of TransferWise.
Existing investors include James Meekings and Andrew Mullinger, co-founders of Funding Circle, alongside an angel syndicate originating from the USA.
Addressing Access and Demand
Toothfairy highlights a critical gap in current dental care access. Approximately 19 million dental appointments were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, over 54% of the population is unaware of how to access dental care outside of regular business hours. A technology-driven solution aims to mitigate these challenges.
Key Features and Services
Toothfairy facilitates on-demand connections between patients and dentists through video consultations. The app has received official approval from the NHS.
Patients benefit from the ability to monitor their treatment progress, communicate directly with a dentist, and maintain updated medical records—all remotely.
The platform also supports in-clinic 3D scans. These scans are utilized to create custom teeth aligners, which are then delivered directly to customers.
Additional services offered through the app include emergency dental appointments and teeth whitening treatments.
Founders and Recognition
The company was founded by Dr. Deepak Aulak and Dr. Kian Dhinsa, who are both graduates of King’s College London.
Their innovative app has already garnered recognition within the dentistry field, earning them several industry awards.
