Tonal Adds Live Classes to Strength Training Workouts

Tonal Introduces Live Fitness Classes
Tonal, the wall-mounted fitness system company, has announced the official launch of live courses integrated into its strength training workout selection.
A preliminary version of this live feature was initially released in December of the previous year. However, the initial rollout utilized prerecorded sessions presented as live, a practice reminiscent of classic television shows.
Real-Time Interaction and Personalized Training
According to the company, these new Live (Beta) workouts deliver the motivational benefits of exercising alongside a coach. This is combined with Tonal’s technology for automated rep counting and personalized pacing.
The system remains flexible, offering on-demand access. Users can participate in workouts at times that best suit their individual schedules.
Competition with Industry Leaders
This new offering positions Tonal more competitively within the home fitness market, aligning its content strategy with companies like Peloton.
While live classes aren't universally preferred, many individuals benefit from the structure of a set schedule and the camaraderie of group exercise.
Features of Tonal Live
The live workouts provide immediate feedback from qualified coaches. A dedicated “social zone” is also included, enabling interaction among Tonal users.
Four new coaches have been added to lead these live sessions. Following their initial broadcast, all live workouts are archived and made available within Tonal’s extensive on-demand library.
Company Vision and Growth
Aly Orady, founder and CEO of Tonal, stated that the company has observed increasing community engagement and a desire for greater coach interaction.
“Tonal Live will allow us to connect these elements through a studio experience while retaining the foundation of what differentiates our workouts: personalization, guidance, and feedback,” Orady explained.
Pandemic-Driven Growth and Funding
Established in 2015 and headquartered in San Francisco, Tonal experienced significant growth during the pandemic. This period saw a surge in demand for at-home fitness solutions.
To date, the company has secured $450 million in funding. This includes a $250 million Series E round in March, which valued the company at $1.6 billion.
