Seeking Assistance: A Guide to Getting Help
Our guiding principle has consistently been to deliver “Computer Help from your Friendly How-To Geek,” and we strive to offer support in the most approachable manner possible. To enhance our efficiency in assisting you, I’ve compiled some recommendations for the optimal way to request help.
Utilize the Forum for Your Questions
The most effective method for seeking assistance is to post your question on the forum. We have a dedicated team of knowledgeable individuals who actively monitor the forum.
It’s highly probable that your query has already been addressed, and a solution may already be available.
Individuals who don't currently require assistance are also encouraged to participate in the forum and contribute their expertise.

Please Avoid Posting Help Requests in the Comments
While you are welcome to submit a question in the comments section, we receive between 20 and 40 comments daily across our 570 published articles.
Consequently, it’s unlikely we’ll be able to address your computer help question if it’s left on an article published months prior.
We typically respond to questions posted within the first few days of an article’s publication, but consistent answers on older articles aren’t guaranteed.
We’ve also observed numerous off-topic questions appearing in the comments. For a response, please direct your question to the forum.
I will be updating the comment form to better reflect these guidelines.
Leverage the Search Function
A search box is available on every page, allowing you to search through our published articles. We’ve likely covered most topics related to Vista and other subjects.
A separate search option is also available on the forums (we plan to integrate these searches soon). If a relevant article isn’t found through searching, please post your question on the forum.
Reach Out to the Geek Directly
I receive a significant number of questions via email each day, and I will always attempt to provide personal assistance when feasible.
However, response times may vary depending on my current workload. The forums remain your most reliable resource.
Stay Updated with the Feed
Many of you are already subscribers, but for those who aren’t, be sure to subscribe to our latest articles feed (located on the right sidebar) to receive your regular updates from How-To Geek.
Our hope is that your computer functions flawlessly and you won’t need to contact us. However, should you require assistance, we pledge to be both friendly and helpful.
