TikTok AI Filters: Control What You See - New Keyword Blocking

TikTok Introduces AI-Enhanced Keyword Filtering
TikTok is implementing AI-driven Smart Keyword Filters, giving users greater control over the content displayed on their For You page. This announcement was made by the company on Tuesday.
Currently, TikTok permits users to employ keyword filters to exclude specific content from their feeds. However, these new Smart Keyword Filters will leverage artificial intelligence to further restrict content featuring related terms, including synonyms.
How Smart Keyword Filters Work
The system will display the supplementary keywords being filtered alongside the user’s original selection. For instance, filtering “remodeling” will also automatically filter “renovation” and “renovations.” Users will soon have the ability to individually select or deselect these additional keywords.
Furthermore, TikTok intends to increase the maximum number of keywords users can add, doubling the limit from 100 to 200. The platform also plans to streamline the process of adding keywords in bulk.
The company anticipates that the precision of Smart Keyword Filters will improve with increased usage over time.
Expanding Content Control Options
TikTok also revealed the global availability of its Manage Topics feature. Initially piloted in the U.S. in August 2024, this tool allows users to customize their For You feed by indicating a preference for more or less content related to specific topics.
These topics include areas such as sports, travel, humor, current affairs, dance, and food.
Access to this feature is available through Settings, then selecting “Content Preferences,” and finally clicking “Manage Topics.” A slider allows users to adjust the amount of each content type they wish to see.
Educational Resources
In conjunction with these updates, TikTok is releasing a new educational guide. This resource is designed to assist users in setting up and gaining a better understanding of their For You feed.
The guide will provide insights into maximizing the effectiveness of these new content control features.
