TikTok Enhances Platform for Songwriters

New functionalities are being integrated into the TikTok application, designed to provide songwriters with enhanced opportunities to showcase their compositions. Currently in beta testing, these additions encompass a dedicated “Songwriter” designation and a specialized tab for displaying their musical portfolio.

Access to this new labeling system and music showcase area is initially limited to a select group of publishing collaborators and songwriters. Interested parties can register their interest through a designated waitlist process.

Research Driven Development

TikTok reports conducting extensive research, surveying over 870 songwriters and holding interviews, to gain insights into their requirements regarding profile development and revenue generation.

Furthermore, an independent study revealed that TikTok is utilized by over half of songwriters for promotional activities on social media platforms. These findings directly influenced the development of these new features.

Following Industry Trends

TikTok’s move aligns with initiatives undertaken by other music streaming services. Spotify has long offered songwriters a platform to highlight their contributions.

Similarly, Tidal introduced a tool last year enabling musicians to track royalties and manage their songwriting credits.

Continued Commitment to Music

Despite discontinuing its dedicated music streaming service, TikTok Music, last year, the platform continues to be a vital channel for music discovery and artist promotion.

Earlier this year, TikTok launched “TikTok for Artists,” a tool that provides artists with performance metrics for their campaigns and tracks.

This tool allows for monitoring of campaign effectiveness and track performance.
