TikTok Shared Feeds: New Content Organization Feature

TikTok Introduces Shared Collections and Teases Shared Feeds
TikTok is implementing a new feature called “Shared Collections,” providing users with a method to curate and distribute TikTok videos within designated groups of friends or family. Furthermore, the platform has previewed the forthcoming “Shared Feeds” functionality, designed to facilitate collaborative viewing experiences based on shared interests.
Shared Collections: Organizing Content with Others
Individual Collections were initially released by TikTok earlier this year, enabling users to archive content into personalized folders. Now, with Shared Collections, users can establish dedicated spaces for collaborative planning. For example, families can utilize this feature to coordinate cookie exchanges or holiday meal preparations.
These Shared Collections also offer a platform for organizing inspiration, such as home décor ideas or gift suggestions for Secret Santa exchanges.
According to the company’s official blog post, Shared Collection simplifies organization as users discover and save content on TikTok, whether it’s from preferred creators or related to a new skill being learned collaboratively.
A prerequisite for creating a Shared Collection is that both participants must be following each other on the platform. Privacy settings allow Collections to remain exclusive to friends and family, or they can be set to public visibility.
The availability of Shared Collections is currently global, restricted to users aged 16 and above.
Shared Feeds: Discovering Content Together
The upcoming Shared Feeds, slated for release in the coming months, are envisioned by TikTok as a means for users to jointly explore new content. These feeds will be generated within one-on-one direct message conversations.
Content surfaced in Shared Feeds will be tailored to the preferences of both users, encompassing topics like sports or seasonal activities, as well as featuring creators they both enjoy. The algorithm powering these feeds will analyze user activity, including likes, views, and comments.
It is important to note that Shared Feeds will not be continuously updated; instead, users will receive a curated selection of 15 videos daily.
This functionality bears resemblance to Instagram Reels’ Blend feature, which allows users to construct personalized reels feeds for shared viewing with friends.
Users can initiate a Shared Feed by extending an invitation to another user. Upon acceptance, a feed can be created and discussed within their direct message thread. Following the viewing of all videos, users can access metrics, including a record of videos both parties liked, in a “Shared Likes” history.
Additional Features: Greeting Cards
TikTok has also announced the introduction of digital greeting cards that users can send to one another. These cards can be selected within chat conversations, personalized with a message, and sent with a corresponding animated visual.
