Andrew Tulloch (Thinking Machines Lab) Joins Meta - AI News

Thinking Machines Lab Experiences Key Departure
Thinking Machines Lab, the artificial intelligence company spearheaded by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has seen a co-founder leave for Meta.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch communicated his decision to leave to the company’s staff on Friday.
Details of the Departure
A representative for Thinking Machines Lab verified Tulloch’s departure to the WSJ, stating that he “has chosen to follow an alternative career trajectory due to personal considerations.”
Earlier in August, the Wall Street Journal detailed Mark Zuckerberg’s intensive AI talent acquisition efforts, which included a proposal to purchase Thinking Machines Lab.
When the acquisition attempt proved unsuccessful, reports indicated Zuckerberg then attempted to recruit Tulloch directly.
Reported Compensation Package
The potential compensation offered to Tulloch was substantial, estimated to be as high as $1.5 billion over a minimum of six years.
A Meta spokesperson previously contested the WSJ’s account of the offer, labeling it “inaccurate and absurd.”
Tulloch’s Background
Prior to his involvement with Thinking Machines Lab, Tulloch held positions at both OpenAI and Facebook’s AI Research Group.
His expertise represents a significant asset in the competitive field of artificial intelligence development.
