Apple Vision Pro Gets Apple Intelligence - Release Date

Apple Intelligence Enhancements Coming to Vision Pro

Apple Intelligence is slated for integration into the Vision Pro through an imminent operating system update. The company officially announced on Friday that its generative AI platform will become available on the extended reality headset with the release of visionOS 2.4. Currently, a beta version of this software is accessible to developers.

The widely anticipated public release is scheduled for April. Like the iPhone and Mac platforms before it, the Vision Pro will receive Apple Intelligence updates incrementally.

Initial Feature Set

The initial rollout encompasses several well-known capabilities, concentrating on the creation of both text and images. Apple views functionalities such as Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarize as vital elements for streamlined on-device workflows.

Since its inception, Apple has consistently characterized the Vision Pro as a “spatial computing” device. While offering robust video, gaming, and entertainment options, the company has aimed to differentiate the system from prior extended reality devices.

It is positioned as a natural extension of desktop computing—as described in a TechCrunch review, it represents “The infinite desktop.”

Improving Text Input

Currently, composing text on the headset presents certain challenges. The standard typing method involves the user focusing on a letter and then performing a pinching gesture with two fingers to select it.

Although effectively implemented, this method can be unwieldy when writing beyond a few words. Voice input partially addresses this limitation, and Apple’s recent enhancements to Siri, powered by AI, suggest a promising future for the smart assistant on the Vision Pro.

Apple anticipates that the synergy between voice dictation and generative AI writing tools will provide a more fluid user experience. This is intended to encourage a greater number of Vision Pro users to integrate the headset into their daily routines.

At a minimum, features like Message Summaries and Smart Reply for emails will simplify interactions with various applications, without disrupting the user’s current task.

Image Generation Capabilities

Image Playground represents another significant addition, bringing image generation directly to the wearable display as part of the visionOS 2.4 update. This feature is seamlessly integrated into the visionOS Photos application.

Users can now generate images simply by providing verbal prompts.

It is important to note that all of the aforementioned features have already been implemented on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. This update does not introduce any Apple Intelligence features exclusive to the Vision Pro.

Vision Pro iPhone App

Alongside visionOS 2.4, Apple has also launched a dedicated Vision Pro iPhone application, arriving with iOS 18.4, which is currently in beta.

This app serves multiple purposes. Primarily, it allows users to browse content available for visionOS, such as television shows and movies, which can then be transferred to the headset.

This functionality appears to be a response to the practical limitations of wearing the headset, considering both personal comfort and battery life. Scrolling through content is more comfortably done on an iPhone.

When an unlocked iPhone is in close proximity to the headset, the new app also facilitates the management of guest accounts. The Vision Pro will alert the owner when a guest attempts to sign in.

Furthermore, a live streaming image of the guest’s in-headset view is accessible through the new application.
