Trump-Musk Feud Boosts X (Twitter) App Store Ranking

The Impact of the Musk-Trump Dispute on Social Media Engagement
The recent disagreement between Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump, while potentially detrimental to the MAGA movement, has demonstrably boosted activity on the platform X. Over the last 24 hours, the platform has experienced a significant surge in user engagement.
X's App Store Performance
Data provided by Sensor Tower reveals a substantial increase in X’s position within the U.S. App Store’s rankings. On June 5th, the application, previously known as Twitter, reached the 23rd overall position.
This represents a considerable improvement from its 30-day average rank of No. 68. Furthermore, the app maintained an average rank of No. 58 over the preceding six months.
Increased Downloads and User Activity
These ranking shifts are likely attributable to a rise in both downloads and overall engagement with the X application. The heightened interest surrounding the public dispute is believed to be a key driver.
Google Play Store Gains
X also witnessed a positive trend in its ranking on the Google Play Store within the U.S. market. The platform climbed approximately 20 positions compared to the average of the previous week, and 16 positions relative to the 30-day average.
User Base Expansion
Sensor Tower estimates a 6% increase in total U.S. mobile app active users on X on June 5th. This growth is strongly correlated with the public fallout between Trump and Musk, which garnered widespread online attention.
Specifically, active users on X, utilizing the mobile app, between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time on June 5th, showed a 54% increase when compared to the previous seven days.
Truth Social Also Benefits
Truth Social, President Trump’s own social network, also experienced a benefit from the ongoing feud. The former president shared his perspectives on Musk with his followers, driving traffic to his platform.
U.S. mobile app active users on Truth Social increased by over 400% compared to the last seven days, as indicated by Sensor Tower’s data panel.
X Remains the Dominant Platform
Despite Truth Social’s gains, Sensor Tower emphasizes that X maintains a significantly larger user base. X currently boasts 100 times more U.S. mobile app users than Trump’s social network.
Peak User Activity
Across both platforms, the number of U.S. mobile app active users between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time reached a 90-day high point.
Current Rankings
X continues to improve its ranking following the dispute. As of this writing, the app is ranked as the 19th top free iPhone application on the U.S. App Store.
Truth Social currently holds the No. 14 position within the Social Networking category, but is ranked below No. 150 overall on the U.S. App Store’s free iPhone apps chart.
