Extreme Tech Challenge Global Finals 2021: Starts Tomorrow!

A Global Startup Competition Kicks Off Tomorrow

Prepare for a significant startup competition with international reach. We are pleased to host the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) Global Finals, with the pitch competition commencing tomorrow, July 22nd, at 9:00 am (PT).

Important Note: Attendance at this virtual pitch event is complimentary; however, prior registration is required – you can register here.

Introducing the Extreme Tech Challenge

If you are unfamiliar with XTC, it represents the world’s premier pitch competition dedicated to addressing the most pressing global challenges. It’s a competition that champions positive change and supports a startup environment focused on purpose-driven organizations striving to create a more sustainable, equitable, healthy, inclusive, and thriving world.

A Highly Competitive Selection Process

The path to the XTC finals was intensely competitive. Over 3,700 startups originating from 92 countries submitted applications to contend within categories such as Agtech, Food & Water, Cleantech & Energy, Edtech, Enabling Tech, Fintech, Healthtech, and Mobility & Smart Cities.

This presented a considerable undertaking. The XTC team, comprised of seasoned investors, entrepreneurs, and executives, carefully evaluated the applicants, ultimately selecting seven finalists: Wasteless, Mining and Process Solutions, Testmaster, Dot Inc., Hillridge Technology, Genetika+ and Fotokite.

Competition Format and Judging Panel

Tomorrow’s competition will unfold over two rounds, demanding that each startup team present their strongest case to impress the distinguished panel of judges – all recognized leaders in sustainability and social impact.

The judging panel includes: Young Sohn, co-founder of XTC and chairman at Harmann International; Bill Tai, co-founder of XTC and partner emeritus at Charles River Ventures; Regina Dugan, president and CEO of Wellcome Leap; Jerry Yang, founder/partner of AME Cloud Ventures and co-founder of Yahoo!; Lars Reger, CTO and EVP at NXP Semiconductors; and Michael Zeisser, managing partner at FMZ Ventures.

Additional Insights from Sustainability Leaders

Beyond the pitch competition, the day will also feature presentations from prominent figures in the field of sustainability. Consider these examples, and explore the full XTC finals agenda and speaker list:

  • Keynote Presentation: Beth Bechdol, the deputy director-general at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, will deliver an address detailing the latest developments from her organization.
  • Addressing Waste: The EPA reports that the U.S. generates 292.4 million tons of waste annually. Can technological innovation mitigate this substantial – and increasing – problem? Leon Farrant (Green Li-Ion), Matanya Horowitz (AMP Robotics), and Elizabeth Gilligan (Material Evolution) will discuss their companies’ unique solutions.
