ANYbotics Advances Robotic Inspection with ANYmal

For several years, we have been following the progress of Swiss robotics firm ANYbotics. Their development of quadrupedal robots has inevitably drawn comparisons to the well-known Spot robot from Boston Dynamics. However, as previously discussed, the company’s approach has been evolving independently, potentially representing a case of parallel innovation.

ANYbotics has now announced its readiness to advance the capabilities of ANYmal. The company is presenting its robot as a comprehensive robotic inspection solution. This system is specifically engineered for inspecting challenging environments like power plants and industrial facilities, conducting patrols in areas unsafe or impractical for human access, around the clock.

The robot features a modular payload mount, allowing for integration of diverse sensor technologies. These sensors facilitate inspections utilizing visual, acoustic, and thermal data acquisition. A remotely controlled pan and tilt camera is included for enhanced situational awareness.

ANYmal's Unique Capabilities

ANYmal possesses the ability to navigate stairs and access confined spaces that would be difficult or impossible for conventional wheeled robots. It is designed to execute inspections with autonomy and autonomously return to its charging station when power levels are low.

Currently undergoing pilot testing, ANYmal is now available for pre-order. Deliveries to customers are anticipated to commence in the latter half of the current year. The company is also providing comprehensive onboarding services to ensure successful client integration.

Feasibility and potential impact are assessed through simulations, on-site demonstrations, and extended pilot programs. Once a deployment plan is finalized, clients receive training on commissioning and scaling the system across their facilities.
