Betaworks Announces New Camp Cohort Focused on AI Interfaces
Venture fund Betaworks has revealed the ten latest companies to emerge from its highly regarded Camp program. This 13-week, biannual residency initiative, launched in 2016, has previously supported successful ventures such as Hugging Face and Graze Social.
This Year’s Theme: Interfaces
The central theme for this iteration of Camp is Interfaces. Participating companies are specifically focused on designing products that redefine how individuals interact with artificial intelligence. Prior Camp programs explored application layers and agent technologies.
Applications were accepted starting in June, and the program commenced in August. The culminating DemoDay took place on November 4th.
The 13th Betaworks Camp Participants
Here's a detailed look at the companies involved in the 13th Betaworks Camp:
- Nora – Developed by Sid Banothu, this is a browser extension designed to monitor and analyze users’ shopping behaviors.
- Primitive – Founded by Kasey Klimes, this web application allows users to vocalize ideas, which are then automatically converted into task lists and to-do items. It integrates with popular productivity tools like Notion and calendar applications.
- Patina – Sean Raspet and Laura Sisson are pioneering olfactory technology. Their work aims to create “scent photographs” utilizing protein folding, scent receptors, and deep learning algorithms.
- My Place, by Orange – Helen Huang’s platform offers users immersive gaming experiences that realistically simulate the routines of daily life.
- Putty – Currently operating in stealth mode, Putty’s founder, Kevin Chang, impressed Betaworks with his exploration of “memory systems, ambient interfaces,” and technology designed for the less structured aspects of daily living.
- Telepath – Created by Stephen Hood, Josh Whiting, and Rupert Manfredi, Telepath is a computer powered by AI, designed without traditional applications.
- Feather – ShaoBo Zhang and Marco Yu founded this digital assistant. It streamlines and automates repetitive tasks, such as the process of finding an apartment.
- Nubrain – Priyanka Jain and Ingo Marquardt are developing a system that translates human thoughts into speech, text, and images using EEG data – the recording of electrical brain activity.
- Presq – Founded by Adam Saleh, Steve Burstyn, and Mikey Robins, Presq enables influencers to upload data for creating customizable prompt options. This allows for the production of manufactured footwear, with plans to expand into eyewear and home goods.
- Intension – Conor Sanchez O’Shea and Gabriel Duemichen’s company enhances focus during desktop work. It minimizes distractions by tracking user attention and mapping workflow patterns.
