Telegram Adds Third-Party Account Verification & Filters - New Features

Telegram's Latest Update: Enhanced Verification and New Features
Telegram has released its initial update for the year, introducing a novel account verification system leveraging third-party services. This update also includes refined message search filters and the capability to convert gifts into NFTs.
Third-Party Account Verification
Previously, Telegram offered a verification program for prominent individuals and organizations. Now, a new initiative allows verified third-party authorities – like food safety regulators or educational institutions – to authenticate accounts.
Accounts verified through these external sources will display a unique logo alongside their names, replacing the standard blue checkmark.
“This decentralized verification approach aims to combat scams and curtail the spread of misinformation,” Telegram stated in a recent blog post. “It represents a proactive safety measure, establishing a new benchmark for social media platforms.”
Entities seeking authentication must first complete a verification process and submit an application to qualify for the verified designation. Telegram allows these organizations to utilize its Bot API to grant or revoke verification status.
This functionality is similar to how organizations purchase verification on platforms like X and then verify associated accounts. Once verified, these affiliated accounts will showcase the organization’s logo on their profiles.
Gifts Transformed into NFTs
Telegram has also introduced a feature enabling users to transform gifts into NFTs, complete with customizable backgrounds and icons.
Gifts are sent using Telegram Stars, which can be purchased directly within the app or via the Fragment website by linking a TON crypto wallet.
Users will have the option to trade these NFTs across various platforms. Telegram does charge a fee to upgrade gifts to collectible status, covering the associated blockchain transaction costs.
Additional Updates
Telegram has been integrating cryptocurrencies for creator monetization and facilitating payments within its games and mini-apps.
Furthermore, the platform has added emoji reactions to service messages, such as notifications when someone joins a group. New search filters have also been implemented for private chats, group conversations, and channels.
These new filters enhance the user experience by allowing for more precise message retrieval.
