Tapestry App Now Removes Duplicate Social Media Posts

Tapestry App Introduces Duplicate Post Removal

A new capability has been integrated into Tapestry, an application designed for managing the open social web. This feature addresses a common issue faced by users who follow the same individuals across multiple social networks.

The update will now eliminate redundant posts from your aggregated feed. Consequently, if you follow someone on platforms such as Bluesky and Mastodon, you will no longer encounter the same post appearing twice should they share it on both services.

Crosstalk Feature and Tapestry 1.1 Update

Dubbed "Crosstalk," this new functionality is being deployed with the Tapestry 1.1 iOS update, which launched on Tuesday.

This release represents a significant enhancement following the app’s initial debut in February 2025.

The Team Behind Tapestry

Tapestry was created by the developers of the acclaimed Twitter client, Twitterific. This team also played a role in coining the term “tweet” to describe posts on the Twitter platform.

Now, they are focusing on the burgeoning open social web, a movement centered around decentralized, open-source technologies.

The goal is to shift control away from large technology companies, like Meta and X, and return it to the users themselves.

Tapestry allows users to consolidate posts from various open technology platforms in a single location.

This includes content from Bluesky, Mastodon, and sources utilizing RSS feeds, such as blogs, Tumblr, and Reddit updates.

Furthermore, it supports tracking YouTube videos, podcasts, and other content types.

Users can also curate personalized feeds by combining these diverse sources.

Addressing Duplicate Content

A primary challenge for multi-feed aggregation apps like Tapestry is the prevalence of duplicate posts.

This occurs when users share the same updates across multiple services, including Mastodon, Bluesky, and Micro.blog.

Intelligent Duplicate Detection

The latest Tapestry update now automatically filters out these duplicates, even if the posts aren't identical.

For example, if a lengthy Mastodon post is shortened to fit Bluesky’s 300-character limit, Tapestry can still identify and conceal the duplicate.

Users have options to hide, "muffle," or completely mute duplicate posts from their feeds.

The system identifies repeated text from the same author across different feeds, rather than requiring an exact match.

The updated app also introduces "Quicklinks," providing shortcuts to frequently visited timelines or custom feeds.

Users can navigate between up to four different timelines by long-pressing the feed icon on the toolbar.

These customizations are device-specific, allowing for different favorite sets on iPhone and iPad.

Improved User Experience

A more accessible refresh button and improved feed navigation have been implemented, located in the far-left menu.

Users can also customize feeds directly from the Action menu of individual items and personalize the app’s icon.

Pricing and Availability

Tapestry is available as a free download on the App Store, with optional in-app purchases.

Subscription options include a monthly fee of $1.99 or an annual fee of $19.99.

A lifetime pass is also available for a one-time purchase of $79.99.
