Startup Battlefield: A Launchpad for Innovation

The Startup Battlefield, widely recognized as the world’s leading pitch competition, has been instrumental in the launch of numerous startups throughout its history – a total of 922, to be precise. The upcoming Battlefield event will be held during TechCrunch Disrupt 2021, scheduled for September 21-23.

For early-stage startups seeking an opportunity to compete against the most innovative ventures globally, applications are now being accepted for the Startup Battlefield. The application deadline is May 13 at 11:59 pm (PT).

Past Success Stories

Several startups have successfully leveraged this platform to achieve significant milestones. Canix (2020), Render (2019), and Forethought (2018) are examples of companies that emerged victorious, each claiming the championship and a $100,000 prize.

Notably, Forethought secured a $9 million Series A investment following its win, demonstrating the long-term benefits of Battlefield participation.

The Application and Selection Process

TechCrunch meticulously reviews each application received. Approximately 25 startups will be chosen to participate in the competition.

Applying and competing are entirely free of charge – there are no application fees or equity requirements. Selected participants will benefit from weeks of complimentary training provided by the TC Battlefield team, ensuring they are fully prepared to present to a panel of experienced VC judges.

Expert Judging Panel

The judging panel includes industry experts who will evaluate the startups. Terri Burns, a partner at GV (formerly Google Ventures), has recently been announced as one of the first judges for the 2021 Battlefield.

Competition Format

Each startup team will have six minutes to deliver their pitch and showcase their demo. Following this, they will engage in a question-and-answer session with the judges.

Teams advancing to the final round will repeat the process before a new panel of experts, culminating in a final pitch, demo, and Q&A session.

Prizes and Benefits

The team crowned as the Startup Battlefield 2021 champion will receive the Disrupt Cup and a substantial prize of $100,000.

All Battlefield competitors will enjoy a VIP experience, including a free demo space in the virtual Startup Alley, a complimentary membership to Extra Crunch, free tickets to future TC events, and an exclusive reception with the Startup Battlefield alumni network.

Exposure and Networking

Participation in the Battlefield provides significant exposure to a global audience of investors, media representatives, and potential customers.

This represents a valuable return on investment for the time and effort dedicated to the application and competition process.
