SyncBack Part 2: Advanced File Synchronization

Exploring Advanced Features of SyncBack and SyncBack SE

Assuming you’ve already explored Part 1 concerning the utilization of the SyncBack freeware application, this article will delve into some of the more sophisticated functionalities offered by SyncBack. We will also examine the advantages presented by the paid version, SyncBack SE.

Creating a New Synchronization Profile

All screenshots featured within this article originate from SyncBackSE. To begin, launch SyncBack and navigate to 'Profiles' then select 'New'.

A prompt will appear requesting a name for your new synchronization profile. Enter a descriptive name for easy identification.

Backup, Synchronization, or Groups

The subsequent screen presents three options: Backup, Synchronize, or create a Group. The Group functionality is a feature exclusive to SyncBackSE. It enables the simultaneous execution of multiple backup and synchronization profiles.

A noteworthy capability on the next screen is the option to synchronize files with an FTP site, proving particularly useful in professional settings. For this demonstration, we will synchronize a local drive with an external drive, therefore selecting 'No FTP'.

Defining Source and Destination

Now, you must specify the files to synchronize and provide a description of their location. Repeat this process for the destination files as well.

Scheduling and Simulation

If the configuration appears correct, save the settings and initiate the synchronization. Alternatively, several additional options are available both before and after creating the synchronization profile. Among these, the 'Schedule' option is particularly important.

Prior to the initial synchronization process, a report detailing the anticipated changes will be presented. Similar to backups, you have the option to perform a simulation run.

SyncBack SE: A Worthwhile Investment

I am generally cautious about recommending paid software unless its benefits are substantial. SyncBackSE is undoubtedly worth the $30 license fee. Details regarding the included features can be found HERE. The options and flexibility offered by this synchronization and backup utility are extensive.
