Sydney Thomas at Disrupt: Startup Judging

Precursor Ventures' Operational Transformation with Sydney Thomas
Prior to the engagement of Sydney Thomas, Precursor Ventures managed its activities directly through the email account of its founder, Charles Hudson, as the investor recently noted.
Thomas was brought on board with the specific intention of streamlining the operational aspects of a solo general partner fund, which at the time had less than $5 million in committed capital.
She successfully reorganized the firm’s processes, and it is with great pleasure that we welcome Thomas to TechCrunch Disrupt 2021.
She will be serving as a judge for our prestigious Startup Battlefield competition, leveraging her extensive experience as an investor, philanthropist, podcaster, and community leader.
Sydney Thomas' Background and Focus
A 2016 alumna of the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, Thomas currently operates as a principal at Precursor.
Her investment strategy centers on providing support to pre-seed companies focused on expanding access to products and services within the “mass market economy,” as defined by Thomas.
Furthermore, Thomas is the creator and host of the “Be About It” podcast.
This platform showcases businesses that align with her investment philosophy.
Extracurricular Activities and Recognition
Beyond her core responsibilities, Thomas maintains a robust schedule of external commitments.
These include her involvement with “The Interrupters,” a collective of investors dedicated to funding Black and LatinX founders.
She also contributes to Invanti, a startup generator based in the Midwest, as a member of its advisory board.
In 2020, Esq. Apprentice, an Oakland-based nonprofit focused on alternative legal career paths, recognized her contributions with the Champion of Justice Award.
Startup Battlefield and Event Details
The Startup Battlefield competition has historically served as a pivotal launchpad for numerous successful startups, including notable companies like Dropbox, Cloudflare, and Fitbit.
Applications are currently being accepted for those interested in participating.
Thomas will be joining a distinguished panel of seasoned investors as a judge at the event.
