Law enforcement officials have announced the arrest of an individual believed to be responsible for a series of online threats directed at TikTok. These threats prompted the social media company to evacuate its offices in the Los Angeles area on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Culver City Police Department, TikTok personnel reported receiving numerous threatening messages. These messages originated from various social media channels and were traced to Joseph Mayuyo, a 33-year-old resident of Hawthorne, California.

Following a further threat specifically targeting TikTok’s Culver City headquarters, the company’s security team initiated an evacuation. This precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety of all employees.

Investigation and Arrest

Police subsequently investigated Mayuyo’s residence. During the course of the investigation, he allegedly made further threatening statements, including a declaration that he would resist arrest.

Detectives secured both search and arrest warrants and engaged in a 90-minute negotiation with Mayuyo. He ultimately exited his home voluntarily and was taken into custody by police.

Reports from Business Insider indicate that TikTok employees found the threats deeply unsettling. One employee described them as “really scary,” while another expressed concern that the e-commerce division was specifically targeted.

Mayuyo’s account on X (formerly Twitter) has been suspended due to violations of the platform’s policies regarding hateful content. A Medium account associated with his name featured a post from July that was critical of TikTokShop USA, labeling it a “scam.”
