Supabase Valuation Doubles to $5B in Four Months

Supabase Secures $100 Million in Series E Funding

The past year has been remarkably active for Supabase, a leading database solution within the rapidly evolving landscape of vibe-coding. On Friday, the company revealed a new $100 million Series E investment, achieving a $5 billion valuation. This funding round was spearheaded by Accel and Peak XV.

This latest achievement follows closely on the heels of its $200 million Series D closure just four months prior, also led by Accel, which valued the company at $2 billion.

Rapid Growth and Valuation Increase

Prior to the Series D, Supabase secured $80 million in Series C funding seven months earlier. This earlier round was guided by Peak XV (a Sequoia spinoff) and Craft Ventures, with the valuation remaining undisclosed at the time.

PitchBook estimated the post-money valuation following the Series C round to be approximately $765 million. This represents a cumulative $380 million in funding secured within a single year, alongside a valuation increase exceeding 500%, based on PitchBook’s Series C estimates.

To date, Supabase has raised a total of $500 million in funding.

Origins and Core Functionality

Founded in 2020 by Paul Copplestone (CEO) and Ant Wilson (CTO), Supabase emerged before the widespread adoption of LLM-powered vibe-coding. The company began as a Y Combinator startup, offering developers an open-source alternative to Google’s Firebase, built on Postgres.

Firebase itself is a database designed to support the development of AI-driven applications.

Supabase integrates Postgres with a suite of enterprise-level open-source tools. These tools provide features such as authentication, automatically generated APIs, file storage capabilities, and a crucial vector toolkit for AI applications.

The platform simplifies the complexities of database setup, reducing the process to a few straightforward clicks. This ease of use has made it a favored backend solution for vibe-coding tools, including rapidly expanding platforms like Lovable and Bolt.

Growing Adoption in the AI Coding Space

Supabase is experiencing increased utilization as the preferred database for prominent AI coding tools. These include Figma, Replit, Cursor, and Claude Code, according to the company.

Community Investment Opportunity

Notably, due to its open-source nature and a thriving developer community – currently boasting over 4 million users – Supabase is extending the opportunity for community members to participate in this Series E funding round through stock purchases.
