Stop MSN Messenger Spammers - Block Annoying Contacts

Dealing with Messenger Spammers
Are you experiencing unwanted messages from spammers on Live Messenger, directing you to suspicious sites like Look9683? Fortunately, these individuals can be effectively blocked. However, it’s important to note that blocking them won’t cause them any physical discomfort.
If you haven’t encountered this issue, you likely aren’t a regular Messenger user. Upon receiving a spam message initially, you’ll be presented with the option to block messages originating from unknown senders. Selecting this option is highly recommended.
Unfortunately, this blocking prompt only appears the first time you receive a spam message. If you decline it initially, the opportunity won’t be presented again.
Blocking Through Messenger Options
Typically, choosing to block will inform you that all contacts not on your approved list will be blocked. This is a preferred setting for many users, ensuring only known contacts can reach them.
If you previously opted to allow messages from all senders, you can still implement a block on unknown users. This requires navigating to the Options panel within Messenger.
Within the Options panel, locate and check the box labeled "Only people on my Allow List can see my status and send me messages". You can then manage your Allow list as needed, adding contacts or blocking others.
Blocking with Pidgin
For users accessing their Windows Live / MSN Messenger / Hotmail account through Pidgin, a different approach is necessary. Access the Privacy settings by going to Tools \ Privacy.
From the "Set privacy for" drop-down menu, select the specific account you wish to protect. Then, in the lower drop-down, choose "Allow only the users on my buddy list".
This configuration will immediately halt the influx of spam messages, effectively stopping these unwanted contacts.
This method ensures a more secure and pleasant messaging experience by limiting communication to your established network.
