Stix Expands into UTI Products with $3.5M Seed Funding

Addressing Women's Health Needs: Stix Secures $3.5 Million Seed Funding
Similar to how companies such as Ro and Hims have streamlined access to everyday health and wellness solutions for men, Stix is focused on doing the same for women.
Stix recently announced the completion of a $3.5 million seed funding round. This financing was jointly led by Resolute Ventures and SWAT Equity Partners, with additional investment from Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, Bullish, and several individual strategic investors.
To date, the company has raised a total of $5 million in funding.
Initial Focus and Expansion
Launched in 2019, Stix initially offered a direct-to-consumer (D2C) pregnancy test designed for ease of use and to reduce associated stigma. Traditional tests often employ imagery, like smiley faces, that may not resonate with all individuals undergoing testing.
The company subsequently broadened its product line to include ovulation tests and prenatal supplements.
Entering the UTI Diagnostics Market
Most recently, Stix has expanded into UTI diagnostic tests, alongside pain relief products and preventative supplements. This expansion into UTI solutions is particularly significant.
According to womenshealth.gov, women are 30 times more susceptible to UTIs than men, and over half of all women will experience at least one UTI during their lifetime. This represents a substantial market opportunity.
Furthermore, accessible over-the-counter diagnostic products for UTIs are limited. Obtaining a diagnosis often requires a doctor's visit, despite the prevalence of these infections.
Empowering Women with At-Home Testing
Stix’s FDA-cleared UTI test provides a convenient way for women to gain insights and take proactive steps from home. Products are offered through a subscription model, allowing customers to customize delivery frequency.
The Team Behind Stix
Stix was co-founded by Cynthia Plotch and Jamie Norwood. The company’s vision extends beyond products to encompass comprehensive educational resources and content.
The startup currently employs eight individuals, including the co-founders. Notably, three team members are people of color, and the entire team is comprised of women.
Competitive Landscape
Stix operates within a growing market. Companies like Modern Fertility also offer D2C ovulation and pregnancy tests, and have established distribution partnerships with major retailers such as Wal-Mart.
