Stack Overflow Acquired by Prosus for $1.8 Billion

Stack Overflow Acquisition Announced
The well-known question-and-answer platform catering to programmers, Stack Overflow, is set to be acquired. Reports from the Wall Street Journal indicate that Prosus, a major shareholder in Tencent, will be purchasing Stack Overflow for a sum of $1.8 billion.
Confirmation of the Deal
Update: Prosus has officially confirmed the $1.8 billion valuation in a recent press release.
Understanding Prosus
Though not universally known, Prosus functions as the international investment division of Naspers, a South African media and internet conglomerate. The company represents a significant financial force in the tech world.
Naspers initially invested in Tencent back in 2001, acquiring a 46.5% stake for just $32 million. This early investment proved remarkably successful.
Earlier this year, Naspers divested a 2% ownership share of Tencent, realizing a profit of approximately $15 billion.
Response from Stack Overflow Founders
Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky, the co-founders of Stack Overflow, released a statement following the announcement of the acquisition.
Spolsky further detailed his thoughts in a blog post titled “Kinda a big announcement” published on his personal website.
