Spotify Update: More Control for Users

Spotify Enhances User Control with App Update
Spotify announced an application update on Wednesday focused on providing listeners with greater command over their music experience and personalized recommendations. This update introduces several new features.
These features will be rolled out progressively to both standard Spotify users and Premium subscribers. The enhancements center around managing the Queue, refining the current listening session, and streamlining playlist creation.
Balancing Algorithmic and User Control
The modifications aim to strike a balance within the app. Previously, Spotify heavily relied on algorithmic suggestions for music playback. Now, users gain increased ability to determine what is played, when it plays, and its frequency.
Revamped Queue for Premium Users
Premium users will experience a redesigned Queue. The new interface offers simplified access to essential controls, including Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and the Sleep Timer.
Furthermore, Smart Shuffle and Autoplay can be completely disabled through the app’s Settings menu, offering users complete control.
Previewing Recommendations
Spotify will now display tracks the algorithm is suggesting to play after the current Queue is finished. This allows Premium subscribers to proactively manage their listening experience and decide which songs to include.
Improved Song Management
A redesigned Hide button is now more prominently positioned within playlists. Tapping this button will remove the track from the playlist across all devices.
Soon, a 30-day Snooze feature will be launched. This provides a temporary removal of a track from recommendations for a defined period.
Enhanced Playlist Management on Mobile
Mobile playlist management is also improved. Users will find Add, Edit, and Sort buttons at the top of their playlists.
These buttons facilitate adding tracks, modifying playlist details like title and cover art, and reordering the song sequence.
Creating Playlists from Liked Songs
In Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the U.K., and the U.S., users can now create playlists directly from their Liked songs.
This is achieved by first filtering by genre and then selecting the new “turn into a playlist” option.
Relocated Music Curation Tools
The Create button has been moved to the bottom right of the mobile app. This provides access to tools for playlist creation, collaborative playlists, and joining a Blend – a shared playlist combining musical tastes.
Premium subscribers can use the Create button to access the AI Playlist feature and Jam, a real-time listening session with shared Queue control.
Your Library Tab Relocation
As a consequence of these changes, the Your Library tab has been repositioned to become the third option at the bottom of the mobile application interface.
