Spotify Enhances AI DJ with Voice Command Functionality

Spotify is implementing updates to its AI DJ feature, aiming to provide a more engaging user experience. These enhancements allow users to directly influence the music selection and overall atmosphere through spoken requests.

Initially, the AI DJ functioned as a passive experience, playing songs interspersed with commentary. Now, it’s evolving into an interactive system.

New Voice Command Capabilities

Users are now able to instruct the AI DJ to alter the playlist's mood or genre. Specific artist requests can also be made via voice.

The feature is currently available in over 60 markets, and is exclusively for Premium subscribers. Support is presently limited to the English language.

Accessing the AI DJ is straightforward. Users can initiate the feature by typing "DJ" into the search bar. Voice commands are then submitted by holding the DJ button, located in the bottom right corner of the screen.

A quick press of the DJ button allows for a more general adjustment to the playlist’s vibe, without needing a precise command.

Rollout and Expansion

The AI DJ feature was first introduced in February 2023, initially launching in the United States and Canada. A wider global rollout followed in August 2023.

In addition to English, Spotify has expanded language support to include a Spanish-speaking AI DJ option.

Further AI Integration

Beyond the AI DJ, Spotify also offers another significant AI-powered feature. This allows users to generate playlists based on textual descriptions and prompts.
