Speedinvest Closes Second Fund for Marketplace and Consumer Startups
Speedinvest, a Pan-European venture capital firm focusing on early-stage investments, has finalized the closing of its second fund. This fund specifically targets specialist marketplaces and consumer-focused startups.
Fund Details and Backers
The fund successfully raised €60 million (equivalent to $70.8 million). A significant portion of the capital came not only from traditional institutional limited partners (LPs) but also from founders and executives actively involved in the marketplace sector.
Notable backers include leaders from companies such as Ankorstore, Vinted, TradingView, and Planetly. Furthermore, Jörg Gerbig, currently the COO of JustEatTakeAway and a co-founder of Lieferando, also contributed to the fund.
Initial Investments
To date, four investments have been executed utilizing this new fund. These include a seed investment in Yolda, a B2B marketplace specializing in freight and logistics, which secured $1.9 million in June.
Additional investments encompass participation in the €16 million Series B funding round for Byrd, a €30 million Series B round for the digital coaching platform CoachHub, and a $60 million investment in TIER Mobility.
Investment Focus
Mathias Ockenfels, the general partner leading the Marketplaces and Consumer team at Speedinvest, highlighted the breadth of opportunities the fund will pursue.
“Our investment strategy centers around numerous themes,” Ockenfels stated. “These encompass a wide spectrum, ranging from B2B and B2C marketplaces to emerging economic models like the sharing economy, subscription services, and the circular economy.”
Speedinvest’s Commitment to Marketplaces
Since 2017, Speedinvest has committed over €100 million to marketplace and platform businesses through two generations of this dedicated fund.
This demonstrates a sustained and significant focus on supporting innovation within the marketplace and platform landscape.
