SpaceX Launches 60 More Starlink Satellites - Total Over 800

SpaceX successfully deployed another 60 Starlink satellites on Sunday, continuing to expand its network in orbit. This brings the total number of Starlink satellites launched to 835, although the number currently functioning is lower due to the decommissioning of some test models. The launch originated from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and featured a successful, controlled descent and retrieval of the Falcon 9’s first-stage booster. Additionally, the protective fairing halves, which safeguard the payload during ascent, were partially recovered.

The fairing recovery was nearly complete, as both halves were initially captured by SpaceX’s recovery vessels as they descended via parachute into the Atlantic Ocean. However, the netting on one of the vessels experienced a failure during the catch process. SpaceX confirmed the recovery team was unharmed, despite the less-than-ideal result. Nevertheless, successfully positioning the vessels to intercept both fairing components represents progress in the company’s pursuit of full reusability for the Falcon 9 launch vehicle.

This launch demonstrates SpaceX’s remarkable capacity for rapid and frequent launches, with a primary focus this year on deploying its own Starlink satellites. Nearly 300 new Starlink satellites have been sent to orbit since June, and the company anticipates launching at least two further batches within the next month, including a potential launch planned for this Wednesday.

Currently, Starlink is undergoing internal testing with SpaceX personnel, and the company is preparing to initiate a wider public beta program before the year concludes.
