Constellr Raises €1M Pre-Seed for Land Surface Temperature Monitoring

ConstellR Secures €1 Million Pre-Seed Funding for Space-Based Temperature Monitoring
ConstellR, an innovative space technology startup, has successfully closed a €1 million pre-seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by FTTF, with significant contributions from OHB Venture Capital, L-Bank (Baden-Württemberg’s state bank), and an anonymous investor.
Launch and Recognition
The company’s inaugural system is scheduled for orbital deployment in December 2021. ConstellR was also recognized as a finalist for the Hottest Ag/FoodTech Startup award at the esteemed Europas Awards in 2020.
Monitoring Land with CubeSats
Based in Freiburg, Germany, ConstellR utilizes a planned constellation of 30 CubeSats. These satellites are equipped with thermal infrared payloads for comprehensive land monitoring.
The data collected is designed to empower farmers with the ability to optimize their use of water and fertilizer. ConstellR asserts that its technology can potentially reduce current monitoring expenses by as much as 97%.
Innovative Technology
The company has developed a patent-pending miniaturization architecture incorporating “free-form optics.” This allows for more affordable monitoring of the infrared spectrum compared to conventional satellite systems.
CEO Statement
Dr. Max Gulde, CEO of ConstellR, stated: “Our core objective is the daily monitoring of every agricultural field globally. We aim to deliver precise temperature data to precision farming companies, thereby bolstering global food security.”
He further added: “With the backing of our robust financial and technological partners, we anticipate substantial advancements in our constellation’s development, ultimately transforming agriculture on a worldwide scale.”
Investor Perspective
Tobias Schwind, managing partner at FTTF (Fraunhofer’s Technology Transfer Fund), commented: “ConstellR’s distinctive technology, compelling business model, and dedicated team were key factors in our decision to invest in this promising pre-seed round.”
