SOS Raises $3.4M for Modern Tampon Vending Machines

SOS Secures $3.4 Million to Expand Wellness Vending Machines
SOS currently operates a network of vending machines, initially deployed throughout Boston. The company recently finalized a $3.4 million funding round to broaden its selection of health and wellness items available through these vending machines, specifically targeting placement in restrooms.
A Dual-Purpose Platform
These vending machines feature touch screen interfaces and function as a “visually engaging advertising and marketing platform,” offering additional revenue streams alongside product sales.
Investment Details
The latest funding round was spearheaded by For Later, the investment division of Boston-based retail incubator For Now. A diverse group of angel investors also participated, including the Khan family, Zoe Cruz, Jerod Mayo – a coach and former player for the New England Patriots – and Ju Rhyu, founder of Hero Cosmetics.
Current Locations
SOS machines are presently installed in prominent Boston venues such as Fenway Park, the Prudential Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the offices of State Street Corporation. Expansion has already begun with installations at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
Empowering Access to Essential Products
“We aim to transform a potentially stressful situation into one of empowerment and informed choice,” stated Robina Verbeek, co-CEO and founder of SOS. “Convenience should not compromise product quality or the overall retail experience. ‘Fast and simple’ shouldn’t equate to ‘low quality,’ particularly concerning women’s health. Everyone deserves a superior standard.”
The Founding Team
SOS was founded by Susanna Twarog and Robina Verbeek, who serve as co-CEOs. The two initially connected as colleagues at State Street, a financial services firm, and collaborated to address the common issue of malfunctioning and empty tampon dispensers.

The initial prototype of the machine was developed in 2017, with the first operational vending machine launched in 2020. The company’s core objective is to replace outdated, unreliable metal boxes with contemporary devices and services that “provide essential personal care and beauty products from leading brands.”
SOS is seeking to protect its market position through its portfolio of five design patents.
Partnership with the Florida Panthers
“We are pleased to collaborate with SOS to cater to the wellness and personal care needs of our staff, fans, and the South Florida community,” commented Shawn Thornton, Chief Commercial Officer of the Panthers. “These smart machines will provide patrons with reassurance, knowing they can readily access necessary wellness products while attending events at FLA Live Arena.”
Future Expansion Plans
The company’s upcoming installations include 35 additional SOS machines at the Florida Panthers’ FLA Live Arena in Sunrise and five machines at the Panthers’ IceDen in Coral Springs.
Looking ahead, SOS intends to extend its reach to further cities and locations across the United States, with a focus on New York, Florida, California, and other key markets.
