Alexa Features Delayed: What You Need to Know

Alexa+ Launch: Initial Rollout Falls Short of Expectations
Amazon has officially released Alexa+, the enhanced version of its voice assistant, as pledged for a March launch. However, reports indicate that the initial release is missing several key functionalities that were demonstrated during Amazon’s promotional event in February.
Missing Agentic Capabilities
Currently, Alexa+ is unable to execute specific “agentic” AI functions that were highlighted in Amazon’s marketing materials.
These include the ability to place food orders through Grubhub or create original stories for children’s entertainment.
Furthermore, the assistant doesn’t yet possess the capacity to recognize individuals visually and provide chore reminders, nor can it assist with generating gift suggestions – all features presented at the press conference.
Limited Feature Availability and Delayed App
Certain features are being introduced to a limited number of users initially.
This includes functionalities such as ordering rides via Uber and receiving personalized cooking recommendations.
Adding to the delays, the web application for Alexa+, announced last month, currently lacks a confirmed release date.
Underlying Infrastructure Challenges
Development of Alexa+ has reportedly faced obstacles from the outset, stemming from complexities within the AI infrastructure supporting the service.
Based on recent reporting, it appears Amazon continues to address these challenges as it refines and expands the capabilities of Alexa+.
