Anatoly Yakovenko on Agentic Coding | Solana News

The Impact of AI Coding Tools on Software Development
The emergence of agentic coding tools represents a significant shift for software engineers throughout the industry. However, for Anatoly Yakovenko, CEO of Solana Labs, the impact appears to be particularly pronounced.
Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Yakovenko revealed a growing preference for a less hands-on role in software development processes.
Yakovenko's Experience with Agentic Coding
Yakovenko described AI as a powerful enhancer for experienced professionals. Having spent over 15 years in software development, he finds himself increasingly able to observe agentic coding in action.
“I can now simply monitor Claude as it operates, and I’m often able to anticipate potential errors,” he stated.
He further explained that his attention during meetings is frequently directed towards observing Claude’s performance.
Solana's Recent Successes
As the co-founder of the Solana cryptocurrency protocol, Yakovenko has overseen substantial growth this year, despite broader challenges within the cryptocurrency market.
The platform recently reported annual revenue of $2.85 billion, largely driven by activity on crypto trading platforms.
A particularly noteworthy achievement was the launch of Solana’s first exchange-traded fund (ETF) by Bitwise, which attracted nearly $70 million in inflows on its debut day.
Growing Acceptance of Cryptocurrency
Yakovenko attributed this success to increasing acceptance of cryptocurrency, particularly within the traditional finance sector.
“Individuals working in the back-office of finance tend to grasp the concepts of cryptocurrency more quickly,” he noted.
“They are already familiar with settlement and banking risks.”
Criticism and the Case of Trumpcoin
Despite the positive developments, cryptocurrency has faced renewed scrutiny regarding its potential for facilitating illicit activities, specifically concerning Trumpcoin, a coin hosted on the Solana network.
Critics allege that approximately $350 million has been directed to the former president through this coin, constituting a form of bribery, especially considering recent pardons granted to figures like Justin Sun and Changpeng Zhao.
Solana's Open Protocol and Limited Control
However, Yakovenko emphasized that, as an open protocol, Solana has limited control over the coins it hosts.
“I could send you a link to Trumpcoin or Fartcoin via email,” Yakovenko clarified, “and both represent protocols – the email itself and the underlying protocol that establishes that market.”
This highlights the inherent challenges in regulating activity within a decentralized, open-source system.
