snapchat permanently bans president trump’s account

Following Snap’s initial announcement last week regarding the indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account, further developments have occurred. Having already faced temporary restrictions on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, alongside a permanent removal from Twitter, Snap has now resolved to make the ban on the President’s Snapchat account a lasting one.

Despite President Trump’s demonstrated preferences regarding social media usage, Snapchat provided the Trump campaign with a notably successful avenue for reaching younger demographics actively using the platform. This permanent prohibition will likely present challenges to his future endeavors, both in business and politics, as he is increasingly absent from prominent social media networks.

This action against Trump comes after the disturbances at the U.S. Capitol last week, instigated by a group supporting the President. Numerous companies have since ended their associations with the Trump brand, and social media companies have worked to limit the President’s visibility on their services during his remaining time in office and afterward.

Snap explains that its decision stems from ongoing and repeated attempts to breach the company’s community standards by the President’s account over recent months.

“Following our announcement last week of an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account, we have been evaluating the most appropriate long-term course of action for the benefit of our Snapchat community. Considering public safety and his efforts to disseminate false information, promote hateful rhetoric, and encourage violence – all of which are direct breaches of our policies – we have decided to permanently close his account,” stated a Snap representative to TechCrunch.

The initial report regarding Snap’s decision to permanently ban the President was published by Axios.
