Snapchat Updates: New Video Editing Features for Creators

Snapchat Enhances Creator Tools and Features
In a move to strengthen its position against competitors like Instagram and TikTok, Snapchat announced on Thursday the introduction of a comprehensive set of new tools designed to streamline content creation and sharing for its users. These updates include the launch of a “Timeline Editor,” a novel method for crafting videos from stored Memories, the implementation of automatic Story saving to user profiles, and further enhancements.
Introducing the Timeline Editor
Snapchat asserts that the newly implemented Timeline Editor will provide creators with a more user-friendly experience when editing videos directly within the application. This editor presents video footage in a sequential arrangement, facilitating effortless trimming, repositioning, and reordering of clips.
Upon establishing the desired sequence, users can integrate Lenses, incorporate music from the Sounds library, and utilize a range of other creative functionalities. This tool has the potential to reduce reliance on external video editing applications, such as CapCut, for simpler video projects before posting to Snapchat.
New Video Creation Templates
Creators will also gain access to a “Create a Video” template. This feature allows for the selection of multiple Memories, the choice of a song from Snapchat’s Sounds library, and the application of a preferred template to automatically generate a personalized video compilation. Currently, this functionality is being rolled out globally on iOS devices.
Automatic Story Saving
Snapchat is also enabling automatic saving of public Stories directly to user profiles, allowing viewers to revisit previously shared content. The company states this feature empowers creators to curate a permanent archive of their most memorable content and extend its lifespan.
While this functionality somewhat contradicts the traditionally ephemeral nature of Stories, it offers a valuable option for users who wish to preserve their shared experiences.
Enhanced Content Insights for Creators
Furthermore, Snapchat is providing creators with more detailed analytics regarding the performance of their content, enabling them to refine their posting strategies.
Creators can now view the number of viewers who engaged with their public content for a minimum of 12 days within the past month, offering a clearer understanding of their returning audience. They will also be able to identify their most popular Spotlight posts and public Stories from the preceding 28 days, alongside their cumulative view time.
In addition, insights into traffic sources will be provided, categorizing views based on origin – including the Discover For You page, Following feed, Spotlight, Search results, Chat, and Profile views. Finally, creators will have access to the average viewing duration of their Spotlight posts, as well as the average completion rate.
