Snap Rewards AR Creators & Offers Student Discount on Spectacles

Snap Introduces Rewards and Discounts for AR Developers
Snap Inc. revealed on Thursday the launch of a new initiative called “Challenge Tags,” a rewards program designed to incentivize AR developers. This program will offer cash prizes to creators who submit innovative Lenses.
Alongside this, the company announced the availability of educational pricing and a student discount for Spectacles, its augmented reality glasses geared towards developers.
First Challenge Focuses on Humor
The inaugural Challenge Tag theme centers around humor and remains open for submissions until January 31st. A substantial prize of $2,500 awaits the developer of the winning Lens.
Second and third-place submissions will receive $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Furthermore, twenty honorable mentions will each be awarded $250.
Participation Requirements
To enter, developers must register for each specific challenge. They then need to construct a Lens utilizing Snap’s Lens Studio.
Crucially, the designated Challenge Tag must be applied during the publishing process for consideration. Snap intends to unveil new challenges on a monthly basis.
Judging Criteria and Global Access
Submissions competing for prizes will be evaluated based on three key factors: originality, technical proficiency, and adherence to the challenge’s theme.
AR developers from over 100 countries are eligible to participate, facilitated by Snap’s new collaboration with Lenslist, an AR marketing platform.
Educational Pricing for Spectacles
Regarding the new pricing structure, students, teachers, and university staff can now subscribe to access Spectacles for $49.50 per month, or €55. This represents a significant reduction from the standard subscription cost of $99 monthly.
This educational pricing and student discount are available in all regions where Spectacles are currently sold, including the U.S., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands.
Eligibility extends to any student or educator enrolled at, or employed by, an accredited educational institution within these markets.
Snap’s Continued AR Investment
Snap is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of AR, having popularized AR filters and lenses through its core platform.
As an early adopter, the company has consistently invested in the advancement of augmented reality technologies over time.
These recent changes underscore Snap’s ongoing dedication to the development and progression of AR experiences.
