Smarter Health Secures $5.15M SGD to Lower Healthcare Costs in Southeast Asia

Streamlining Healthcare Data Exchange with Smarter Health

The process of coordinating information originating from healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients is often time-consuming and contributes to increased expenses within the private healthcare sector.

Smarter Health, a startup headquartered in Singapore, is dedicated to developing technological solutions that facilitate a more seamless flow of data among the various stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.

This improved data exchange aims to enhance the quality of patient care and simultaneously reduce administrative burdens.

Recent Funding and Expansion Plans

The company recently announced the successful completion of a $5.15 million SGD (approximately $3.8 million USD) Series A funding round.

This investment was spearheaded by East Ventures and will be allocated towards further product development and expansion initiatives throughout Southeast Asia.

Additional investors participating in this round included Orbit Malaysia, Citrine Capital, HMI Group, and Emtek.

Currently, Smarter Health provides its services in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The newly acquired funding will enable the company to extend its reach into additional countries.

With this latest round, the total funding raised by Smarter Health now stands at $8 million SGD.

Platform Functionality and Services

Smarter Health’s platform is designed to integrate with existing legacy systems rather than replace them.

Its core function is to minimize manual processes and enhance efficiency.

Leveraging AI-powered technology, the platform ensures secure data exchanges – always with explicit patient consent – between healthcare providers, insurers, and patients themselves.

This capability underpins a comprehensive suite of services.

For insurers and payors, these services include a patient concierge that assists with specialist recommendations, appointment scheduling, and the creation of detailed policyholder demographic profiles.

Furthermore, the platform automates claims assessments, provides insurers with real-time case updates, and accelerates the billing and claims adjudication processes.

Key Customer Segments

The company primarily serves three distinct customer groups: doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies, alongside other corporate payors.

Notable clients include prominent organizations such as AIA, Allianz, and Prudential, representing a significant portion of the company’s business.

For healthcare organizations and providers, Smarter Health offers tools for specialist recommendations and streamlined patient registration.

It also provides a load-levelling solution designed to reduce patient waiting times, alongside digitized hospital admissions and claim submissions.

Industry Perspective

Willson Cuaca, co-founder and managing partner at East Ventures, stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted insurers and healthcare providers to reassess and refine their operational strategies, accelerating the adoption of digital transformation.

He further emphasized that Smarter Health is positioned to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and accountable through its AI-powered, interoperable platform.
