Mojo Vision's Advancements in Augmented Reality Contact Lenses

For several years, Mojo Vision has maintained a presence at CES, providing previews of the possibilities inherent in its augmented reality contact lens technology. Each year, the realization of this technology appears incrementally closer, though still remains a future prospect.

Due to circumstances related to the pandemic, a meeting with the California-based company isn't possible this year. However, Mojo Vision is releasing further details regarding the potential applications of smart contacts.

Strategic Partnerships in the Sports Sector

A key announcement from this year’s event involves a series of collaborations with prominent brands within the sports industry. These include Adidas Running, Trailforks (focused on cycling and hiking), Wearable X (specializing in yoga), Slopes (for skiing), and 18Birdies (dedicated to golf).

Despite these partnerships, the technology is not yet commercially available. The company is currently awaiting FDA approval, among other necessary steps.

The current focus is demonstrating how an effectively eye-mounted display could integrate into the routines of professional athletes.

Enhancing Athletic Performance with Discreet Data Delivery

“Current wearable devices offer benefits to athletes, but can also detract from their concentration during activity. We believe a more streamlined approach to delivering performance data is possible,” stated David Hobbs, Mojo’s Senior Director of Product Management, in a press release.

“Innovation in existing wearable formats is approaching its limitations. At Mojo, we are exploring what remains unmet and how to provide information without interrupting an athlete’s focus and flow during crucial training moments.”

The company’s vision centers on delivering data without the need for cumbersome wearables or requiring athletes to divert their attention to external devices.

These partnerships clearly signal Mojo’s intention to target the sports market as an initial application for its technology, alongside other potential uses, such as providing assistance to individuals with visual impairments.

Securing Further Investment for Continued Development

Mojo Vision also announced a $45 million Series B-1 funding round, following a $51 million raise in April of the previous year. This latest investment, which includes participation from the Amazon Alexa Fund, PTC, Edge Investments, and HiJoJo Partners, brings the company’s total funding to $205 million.
