Skype, a widely used application for both voice and video communication, is compatible with various mobile operating systems, notably Android.

Initial Setup: Obtaining and Updating Skype for Android

Should you not currently have Skype on your Android device, proceed to the Android Market application on your tablet. From there, perform a search for "Skype" or utilize the provided link to initiate the installation process.

If Skype is already present on your tablet, it's important to verify its update status. Check if an automatic update has been applied, or manually initiate an update if necessary.

Access the Android Market and locate the "My apps" section, typically found in the upper-right corner of the screen. This will display a list of your installed applications.

From your installed applications, select Skype. An "Update" button will appear if an update is available; simply click it to begin the process.

If automatic updates are enabled on your device, Skype is likely already running the latest version. You can confirm the installed version by selecting "See details".

Activating Video Calling on Your Device

Begin by launching the Skype application from your installed applications. From within the main Skype interface, which displays options like Contacts, Recent, Call Phones, and Profile, locate and tap the menu button situated in the lower-left corner.

This action will open a menu; from this menu, select Settings to access the application’s configuration options.

Within the Settings menu, scroll downwards until you find the section labeled Video calls. Locate the option to Enable video calling and ensure the corresponding checkbox is selected.

You might encounter a notification indicating that your device hasn't been officially certified for use with Skype. If this appears, simply click Continue to proceed with enabling video calls.

As video calling is enabled, Skype will automatically restart. Following this automatic reload, you are free to customize further video call settings.

You can then personalize your experience or initiate your first video call directly from your tablet device.

Initiating a Video Call

Upon selecting a contact for a call, a Skype video call option will now be visible among the available actions.

During a video conversation, a simple tap on the screen allows you to toggle the camera on or off, or switch between different cameras. Access camera settings by selecting the camera icon located in the lower-right corner of the screen.

By default, Skype utilizes the Front camera. However, if your tablet is equipped with a rear-facing camera, the option to switch to the Back camera is also available.

The latest Skype iteration offers support for both portrait and landscape orientations during video calls. To alternate between these modes, ensure auto-rotation is enabled on your tablet and adjust its physical position.
