Sentry Expands Performance Monitoring Capabilities

Sentry, a company focused on assisting developers in identifying and resolving bugs prior to service interruptions, has broadened the scope of its Performance Monitoring software. Support has been integrated for React Native, Android, and Xamarin platforms.

The company, recently achieving a unicorn valuation through its latest funding round, has also enhanced its Flutter SDK with compatibility for additional programming languages.

Tracing Performance Issues

Development teams utilize Sentry’s Performance Monitoring software to pinpoint the origins of bugs and performance bottlenecks. These issues can often be traced back to inefficient API calls, sluggish database queries, or other underlying causes.

Originally developed in collaboration with Google, Sentry’s Flutter SDK now provides support for a wider range of languages, including Kotlin and Java for Android, as well as Swift and Objective-C for iOS, and C/C++.

New Features for Flutter SDK

Several new features have been incorporated into the Flutter SDK. These include the capability to symbolicate, or convert into a readable format, Flutter-obfuscated Android builds.

The SDK now also allows for the capture of breadcrumbs – a detailed log of events preceding an issue – for both user interface interactions and HTTP requests.

Furthermore, support for fatal crash reporting and offline caching has been added, ensuring developers continue to receive reports even when a user’s device loses internet connectivity.

Expanding Observability

According to Milin Desai, CEO of Sentry, “These additions further expand our footprint, ensuring that all developers have visibility into the impact of their code—from frontend to backend—closing the observability gap and ensuring superior user experiences across all platforms and frameworks.”

Wide Adoption and Key Clients

Currently, approximately 68,000 organizations globally rely on Sentry to monitor application performance and address bugs. Common issues identified include slow page load times, which can negatively impact user satisfaction and revenue.

Notable customers of Sentry include prominent companies such as Atlassian, Cloudflare, Disney, GitHub, and Microsoft.
