We’ve previously assessed their Anti-Virus solution and offered positive feedback regarding the Comodo Firewall. Today, our focus shifts to Comodo BOClean, a convenient anti-malware tool designed for minimal user intervention.
Installation Process
The installation procedure is streamlined and guided by a user-friendly wizard. A notable aspect is BOClean’s diligent check for pre-existing installations of earlier versions on the system. This verification is requested on two separate occasions during setup.
Once the absence of prior BOClean versions is confirmed, the standard installation windows appear. Simply accept the default installation directory and initiate the process.
Prior to full operational readiness, Comodo BOClean automatically updates its malware database to the latest definitions.
Utilizing Comodo BOClean
Upon launch, BOClean operates discreetly in the background, with an icon visible in the system tray. Accessing the main menu is achieved by right-clicking on this icon.
A crucial initial step involves ensuring the database is current by performing a manual update through the control panel.
Several configurable settings are available. These include options for automated cleanup and removal, automatic database updates, and report retention, all designed to simplify administration. Furthermore, BOClean can be placed in "stealth mode," preventing configuration changes and concealing the tray icon.
Activating stealth mode provides a layer of protection against unauthorized modifications by other users. A confirmation prompt appears when these settings are adjusted.
For technically inclined users, BOClean provides a comprehensive list of the monitored trojans.
Concluding Remarks
Comodo has again produced a robust anti-malware solution with BOClean. It effectively removes malicious registry entries, eliminates the need for system reboots after removal, provides daily updates, and offers a range of customization options.
While potentially more suited for experienced PC users due to its detailed protection settings, BOClean requires minimal ongoing administration once configured.
