Scaleway Launches $2.10/Month Cloud Instances

Scaleway, a cloud hosting provider based in France, initially gained recognition for its remarkably affordable cloud instances. Throughout its development, the company broadened its services to include higher-tier options like managed Kubernetes, object storage solutions, block storage, managed databases, load balancing capabilities, and GPU instances. Now, Scaleway is introducing a new, budget-friendly cloud instance priced at €0.0025 per hour – equivalent to approximately $0.0039 per hour.
It’s important to note that this price point doesn't deliver exceptional performance. However, it presents an excellent opportunity to experiment with new technologies and develop applications for personal use. For single-user applications, the provided specifications may prove sufficient.
This new virtual compute instance, named Stardust, features 1 vCPU, 1GB of RAM, an IPv4 address, 10GB of local storage, and a maximum bandwidth of 100Mbps. Importantly, there are no limitations placed on the amount of bandwidth utilized.
With hourly billing, the monthly cost amounts to €1.80 ($2.10). Given this low price, substantial revenue generation from this product isn’t the primary goal. Consequently, availability is restricted. Scaleway will make a limited number of these cloud instances available each month, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are also usage restrictions in place to prevent the mass deployment of Stardust instances for large-scale infrastructure projects. Each user account is permitted to have a maximum of one Stardust instance in Paris and one in Amsterdam.
Scaleway suggests several potential applications for this new offering, including an internal wiki, a code repository backup solution, a consistently running instance for setting up daemons, triggers, and workers, and a VPN server. The instance is compatible with Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, and Fedora operating systems.
