Save Internet Explorer Bookmarks - Guide & Methods

Exporting Internet Explorer Bookmarks
Currently, my use of Internet Explorer is limited to situations like downloading Windows updates or accessing pages that don't render properly in Firefox. A useful Firefox extension for handling compatibility issues is IE Tab. However, professional responsibilities sometimes require me to configure IE for other users.
Recently, I assisted a user transitioning to a new workstation with a common task: transferring their Internet Explorer bookmarks. The following steps detail how to accomplish this.
Initiating the Import/Export Wizard
Begin by opening Internet Explorer. Navigate to the File menu and select Import and Export. This action will launch the Import/Export Wizard.
Click Next to proceed.

Selecting Export Options
Since the goal is to save bookmarks, choose the Export Favorites option. The wizard also provides options to export cookies and RSS feeds, if desired.
Click Next to continue.

Confirming the Favorites Folder
The Favorites folder will be automatically highlighted. Confirm this selection and click Next.

Choosing a Storage Location
Now, designate a location to save the bookmark file. In this example, a network drive was selected. Alternatively, a flash drive or floppy disk can be used, provided the file size is within the storage capacity.
After selecting the desired location, click Next.

Completing the Export Process
Once the wizard finishes saving the files, click OK. Then, click the Finish button to close the wizard.

Importing Bookmarks on a New Machine
The process is complete! To import the bookmarks onto a new computer, simply run the Import/Export Wizard again. This time, choose Import Favorites and then navigate to the location where the saved file is stored.
