Samsung SmartThings AI: Simplify Your Daily Routines

Samsung's SmartThings to Integrate AI for Enhanced Home Automation
Samsung announced on Wednesday the forthcoming integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities into its SmartThings platform. These new features are designed to streamline daily routines through the utilization of ambient sensing and generative AI technologies.
Ambient Sensing and Personalized Experiences
During Samsung Unpacked 2025, the company detailed how the “Home AI” features will leverage data gathered from users’ daily lives to deliver customized experiences.
SmartThings will employ sophisticated sensor technology, including motion and sound detectors within the home, to recognize activities such as cooking or sleeping. This understanding will then be used to optimize the surrounding environment.
AI-Powered Activity Recognition
Samsung envisions a highly responsive smart home. For example, while a user is engaged in exercise, SmartThings will identify the specific activity and provide guidance on proper form.
Furthermore, the system can detect the sounds and movements associated with tasks like hair drying. Upon detection, it can automatically initiate a robot vacuum to address fallen hair.
Responding to Pet Activity
The platform’s capabilities extend to recognizing interactions with pets. SmartThings could activate an air purifier to eliminate allergens when a miniature pinscher jumps onto a couch, for instance.
Generative AI for Deeper Personalization
The integration of generative AI will provide SmartThings with a more comprehensive understanding of the user’s home environment, enabling even greater personalization.
Intuitive Interactions with Map View
Users will be able to utilize pictures of objects, such as chairs, in conjunction with Samsung’s Map View technology. This allows for the creation of a 3D home map for simplified device control and operation.
Based on a user’s location relative to specific objects or areas, SmartThings can intelligently adjust lighting or temperature settings.
Data Privacy and Security
Samsung emphasizes that all user data will be stored locally on the home network. No personal information will be retained in the cloud or shared with third parties without explicit consent.
Rollout Timeline
These updates to the SmartThings platform are scheduled for release throughout 2025 and 2026.
