Samsung SmartThings App Update: Enhanced Home Automation

Samsung Enhances SmartThings with Expanded Automation Features
Samsung has released an update for SmartThings, its application designed for controlling its range of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
This update introduces new home automation functionalities, seemingly aimed at encouraging existing customers to purchase additional smart home products and appliances from Samsung.
New Integrations and Capabilities
Beyond the expanded automation features, users will benefit from fresh integrations with the Samsung Health app.
An intercom functionality has also been added, alongside broadened device support through the Matter 1.4 smart home connectivity standard.
Advanced Routines for Home Automation
The app’s “Routines” feature, functioning similarly to Apple’s Shortcuts and IFTTT, has been significantly improved.
This feature provides a user-friendly, no-code interface for creating conditional tasks and automating home functions.
Users can now schedule routines to repeat on a weekly, monthly, or annual basis.
Integration with Samsung Health and 2025 TVs
SmartThings now integrates with the Samsung Health app and the new 2025 Samsung TV models.
This integration allows for automations such as automatically switching off lights when going to bed, or initiating the TV to a preferred channel upon waking.
Sleep Tracking and Environmental Monitoring
The application can now connect to Samsung Health to deliver sleep reports from Galaxy devices.
These reports include key metrics like temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, and lighting intensity, further enhancing the routines feature with sleep-related automation possibilities.
Intercom Feature – A Late Addition
SmartThings now supports sending voice messages to connected speakers within the home.
However, this functionality arrives relatively late, as Amazon’s Echo devices have offered this capability since 2017, and Apple introduced a comparable feature for HomePods in 2020.
Expanded Matter 1.4 Support
With the implementation of the Matter 1.4 standard, SmartThings now extends its compatibility to a wider range of devices.
This includes support for water heaters, heat pumps, solar power systems, batteries, and both mounted on-off switches and dimmable load control devices.
